2/10/19 - The Lord is Worthy to be Praised
“I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” (Psalms 18:3)
We sometimes sing these exact words in worship to Jesus Christ, because He is worthy of our praise. In Revelation 5, we read of the search for the Holy One who was worthy to open the scroll and release the seven seals. No one was found worthy until one of the elders explained that the Worthy One was the Lion of the tribe of Judah, speaking of Jesus. When the Lord came and took the scroll, millions of singing angels began, “saying with a loud voice: ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!’” (Revelation 5:12)
From the beginning of time to the end of the ages, Jesus is the Lord God who deserves our honor and praise. He is worthy of praise because:
1) He is our Creator. He created and sustains all things with the word of His power (Hebrews 1:2,3; Colossians 1:16,17; John 1:3). We honor our Creator for giving us our lives and all the things we need for life. We admire His handiwork (Psalms 19:1). Let us praise Him for all that He has made.
2) He has done marvelous things (Psalms 98:1). Our Lord does what no one else can do. Nicodemus noted that Jesus was from God and His works proved it (John 3:2). His miracles show His glory, especially His resurrection from the dead.
3) He is the Savior. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Though He left His home in glory and humbled Himself to become a human being like us, He overcame every temptation, offered His life’s blood to save us, and rose from the dead to give us new life. Our Savior is the perfect and unique Lamb of God. No one in the universe deserves the praise that is due Him.
4) He is the righteous Judge and rewarder. Jesus is coming back in glory. The first time He came under humble circumstances to save the lost who will come to Him for forgiveness. This second coming will be to rightfully judge the world. He will justly punish the wicked, the faithless, and the disobedient with everlasting fire. He will bring a glorious reward to those who have reached out to Him in faith and obedience for His mercy and grace. He is worthy, both now and when He comes again to take us home to be with Him. Praise His holy name.
